CWR IS AN EFFECTIVE AND EFFICIENT HUMANITARIAN AID MINISTRY WITH A SIXTY-YEAR HISTORY.

CWR collaborates with partners around the world to provide relief, rehabilitation and transformational development. These partnerships empower local ministries, increase local involvement, reduce overhead and facilitate immediate response to disaster and human suffering. Our charge is to love, serve and work together with the poor, the powerless, and the marginalized. Learn more about Covenant World Relief here.

Thornapple has been a supporter of Covenant World Relief for many years. We designate time in the fall as a special time to raise funds to support Covenant World Relief. We use soup cans with special Covenant World Relief labels to collect donations in at home. Donations are then brought and offered during a designated service in the fall (traditionally at Thanksgiving but earlier this year due to the capital campaign). Donations made via check will be recorded in individual giving statements; cash and coins will be treated as anonymous gifts. If you would like to donate to Covenant World Relief, simply make checks out to Thornapple with CWR on the memo line and turn them into our Staff Accountant.

Check out this video that explains who Covenant World Relief is and how they work. Please remember to pray regularly for Covenant World Relief efforts.

If you would like to give directly to CWR they have a “Covenant Cares” page to help you. Covenant Cares provides a meaningful way to give a gift while at the same time support the life-changing ministries of the church. Whether you provide a village with a sow; support a clean water project; or underwrite a school scholarship for a young child, your gift will make a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Can for Change:
Virtual Edition

Every fall at Thornapple we donate to Covenant World Relief (CWR) using soup can “banks” to collect change at home, bringing these donations to church at the Thanksgiving service.

Like so many things, we’re doing things a little differently this year. Rather than sending cans home with everyone, we’re encouraging you to create your own cans at home for collecting donations.

For families we have a Gratitude and Giving Calendar to follow to guide your donations – feel free to follow this or simply collect change for the month in your homemade Can for Change.

At the end of November, collected donations for the CWR can be given:

  • by check (please note “CWR” in the memo; mail or bring to church)
  • online via our giving portal (select “Covenant World Relief” as the designated fund)
