Worship at Thornapple
Pastor Rob's Lent worship series is entitled, Images of the Cross. Rob will help us re-examine the meaning and impact of the sacrificial death of Christ and how it relates to our daily life. Sundays in Lent are February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21, followed by Palm Sunday and Holy Week.
For details on the Lent season, resources for Lent and the worship schedule with themes and scripture, click here. There are also Lent devotional materials available at the Welcome Center (for both families and adults).
On Sunday, May 2 we will not have our traditional worship services. Instead we will worship by serving through an all church event called Feed My Starving Children. For all the details, click here.
At Thornapple we offer two Sunday morning worship gatherings at 9:00am and 10:30am.
In both worship hours we create the time and space for us to respond to God with all that we are, both individually and corporately. We strive to tell God's story through new and classic songs; visual and creative arts; new and ancient prayers; strong Biblical and practical teaching; and times of meditation and reflection. We seek to create a worship environment that reaches into the spiritual depth of the past while embracing the new expressions of the present.
Our 9:00am worship gathering is our contemporary hour using a full band with a variety of instruments. In addition to worship at 9:00 there is:
- an adult education class,
- children's worship for ages 4 through 3rd grade,
- a class for children with special needs, and
- nursery care.
Our 10:30am worship gathering is our blended hour merging organ, choir, an acoustic band, and piano. In addition to worship at 10:30 there is:
- an adult education class,
- children and student classes (3 year olds through high school),
- a class for children with special needs, and
- nursery care.
We believe that both options will grow and stretch our worship and further enable us to respond to God, not only on Sunday, but throughout the rest of our week.
Nursery is provided during both services all year. During the school year, September through May, classes for children and students are offered during the 10:30 hour and adult classes are offered during both hours.
During holidays our schedule may change. Please consult the Sunday bulletin or call the church office if you have questions.
There is no "dress code" at Thornapple - on any given Sunday morning, you will see everything from jeans and sweatshirts to jackets and ties.
Our Minister of Worship Arts is Matthew Anderson. If you would like to contact him you may do so through the church office or by e-mailing him at manderson@thornapple.org.
Choir Director is Erin Russell. If you have questions about the chancel choir or would like to join, contact Erin at shoe1279@hotmail.com or by phone (see church directory). Or just come to a rehearsal at church on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm (September through May).
We, at Thornapple, pray "that we may exploit the inner yearning that millions possess to be intimately connected with their Father in heaven through genuine, authentic, consistent, purposeful, loving, and pleasing expressions of worship." (George Barna, Experience God in Worship, Group Publishing, 2000)
