Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Family Promise has suspended at church hosting through 2020 (families will be put in temporary housing in hotels; please consider donating to the work of Family Promise to help cover these unexpected costs).

We will update you when the next opportunity for Thornapple to serve as a Host Church for Family Promises’ Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is scheduled. We will need your help with meal prep and volunteering in the afternoons/evenings at church while they families are on site (serving meals, playing with kids, overnight hosts, general hospitality).

What is Family Promise?
A local non-profit that works to give parents the hope and encouragement they need to create a better future for their kids and end the cycle of homelessness. Through their emergency shelter, housing services, home ownership opportunities and aftercare services, they’ve helped nearly 2,000 families build a stronger future.

Learn more about the stories of some families they have served here.

More details: Thornapple will be hosting about five families four times per year for one week each time; the families are at Thornapple from 5:30 in the evening until 7am the following morning each weekday and all day on Saturday. They do laundry and shower at Family Promise’s Day Center on Cherry and will not be at Thornapple during the day; just in the evenings for dinner, hanging out and sleeping. Beds are provided by Family Promise, but we need to provide the bedding (sheets and blankets) and a few other items that will be re-used each time we host families (these are included in the in-kind donations sign up here).
