Hearts for Sewing
Initially this sewing group worked on projects for It’s Our Mission, Period, making personal hygiene kits for girls and women in Kenya. This mission work has now been completed, as future kits will be made in Kenya. Special thanks to all the women who made this project successful. The women and girls who receive our kits will be most appreciative.
Knowing this project was at an end, we have been investigating other sewing opportunities. Charity needs involving sewing are great!! The long list includes local needs as well as needs throughout our country and in foreign countries as well. Our help is needed on many fronts. Therefore, we have renamed our group to Hearts for Sewing. Our mission is to serve others as we enjoy fellowship with each other. Our hope is to serve a number of organizations.
Recently, we sent 102 dresses and 60 pairs of shorts to Little Dresses for Africa to be forwarded on to children in African countries. Many of the dresses were beautifully made and embroidered by Judy Veenstra (who works from home). Little girls are going to be thrilled when they see them.
To do this work, we need sewers and non-sewers. There will be jobs for every one as the need is great. Hearts for Sewing will meet the first Thursday of each month from Noon to 4:00pm at Thornapple in the lower level. Please note, for October 2017, we will be meeting the second Thursday, Oct. 12. Please come and join us. If you have a project that you are currently working on, come, work and join us for fellowship. If you have questions, please contact Carole Medema or Jan Schneider.
